The Best Way to Learn is to Do

"For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them." Aristotle
Experiential learning is an immersive experience that allows you to understand through action. Everyone learns differently. Some people will learn better through reading, others though listening. But once you've done something, you rarely forget.
It's hard to prepare for a new job or a leadership role. There aren't many opportunities to practice taking the skills you need to be successful before you take on the title. Classroom learning can be a great way to pick up some new thought patterns and best practices, but it's still a theory. Theories are interesting in the moment and then easily forgotten.
Experiences, however, are deeply impactful. Once you've had a chance to lead or make decisions or get team buy-in, you create your own philosophy about what works, and what works for you. More importantly, you learn what doesn't work. Stories of your mistakes are often the most memorable.
What you learns becomes what you know only by what you do.
